Deanne Lawyer used to admire Susie Emerson. You might say she had a case of hero worship about Susie. However, hero worship ends when Susie steals the choral solo from Deanne. What’s a girl to do? With an overprotective mother, it’s hard to find a way to get even with a two-timer like Susie. When opportunity presents itself, what will Deanne do?
While this is an incredibly short story (5 reading pages), Ms. Logan manages to work an entire storyline into only a few words. A great read for tweens and teens dealing with jealousy and competition issues. I thought the point was well made and while as a mom of a tween, I was hoping there would be a slightly different spin on the ending. I was hoping for more of a moral lesson, but let’s be honest…my tween would prefer the ending as it is. Another great Young Adult story.
