Were they the only ones who were concerned about their family’s feud? Luke Bravo and Mercy Cabrera knew if they pursued this attraction, this all consuming need to be with each other, get to know each other, it could very well add fuel to the embers of the multi-generation feud.

But what could it hurt to find out just where all this desire and attraction could lead? It could end up being a fling, nothing more. Luke and Mercy, with some trepidation, decide to see each other in secret. Passion and sparks ignite. They find they have so much in common; they’re friends as well as lovers.

Mercy’s feelings of guilt and betraying family soon become stronger than her need for Luke. They know someone is going to get hurt. They need to either be open in their dating or end it for good. After all, secrets do have a way of surfacing.

If only their parents didn’t hold such animosity over deeds of generations past. If only they’d just let it go. Of course, things are never as simple as that. When their families discover they’re seeing each other, it could result in ripping them apart. Do Luke and Mercy have it in them to allow themselves to be happy no matter what?

From the beginning, Luke and Mercy’s attraction was palpable to the reader. Their intense desire as well as loyalty to family was a visible struggle. It was between them like a barrier. The reader can’t help but be aware of it with each thought and word spoke.

Even though Mercy had a skewered sense of what she owes her family you only feel empathy for her. When Luke stands firm but also gives Mercy full support in her difficult decisions you cheer. Ms. Rimmer always brings different layers of desire and tension and loyalty to her characters. She brings out the best in them.
