She had his number. From the time Gabe Bravo stepped foot out of his Cadillac SUV she knew what he wanted and how he was going to set about getting it. But Gabe didn’t know Mary Hofstetter. The ranch might not be much, and it might be a bit more than she can handle, but it was hers and she wasn’t selling.

Mary Hofstetter was one stubborn woman. Gabe could handle her, get her to sell; his father wanted her land for a development project and what his father wanted his father got, whatever it took. It might take some time, though. A damper is put on his strategy when it becomes obvious during his presentation that Mary has gone into labor. Not one to panic, he takes things in hand. Baby first, presentation second.

With the birth of her daughter, Mary feels a connection growing between her and Gabe. He was there for her during deliver and saw to every need. He finally believed her when she said she wouldn’t sell; he lavishes Mary and baby Ginny with attention and gifts, but something’s missing. Gabe’s holding back from her and Mary wants more from a relationship.

Gabe’s given Mary more of himself than any other woman. He’s been there for her when she needed him. But she wants it all and he just doesn’t think he can give it. To anyone.

I really enjoyed Mary and Gabe’s story. Their emotional relationship is front and center with secondary characters and circumstances interacting as needed to enhance and move the story along. That Gabe is yummy in most ways, and Mary deftly balances her strength and compassion is the icing on the cake.

With heart and warmth Ms. Rimmer gives us a romance to curl up with and enjoy. She gives the reader the opportunity to escape into another world. Take it.
