Gennie Cooper yearned for the same Wild West adventures as her favorite dime-novel heroine. But Gennie’s destined for the life of the socialite she’s been reared to be. Or is she? Gennie dares to take the chance to live her dream when the opportunity arises and secretly boards the train to Denver. She will become the governess for Daniel Beck’s daughter for one month until the hired governess can make it to Denver to relieve her.
The Wild West isn’t all it’s touted to be in the dime novels. Gennie can hardly tell the difference between Denver and New York City. Where do you have to go to have these wild adventures? Gennie soon discovers that being the governess for one Charlotte Beck is full of adventures and one Daniel Beck is a journey in itself that she just can’t make, after all, she’s practically engaged to a nice banker back home.
Daniel, a widower, has been burned before so isn’t interested in marriage. But Eugenia Cooper has got his attention for reasons he wishes he could forget. Before long Gennie and Daniel are discovering that their feelings are mutual but each believes that the Lord is directing them in different ways.
The Lord is ready to show Gennie and Daniel His way, though there may be a round-about way to get there. Can Daniel overcome his past to let God lead him without question? Can Gennie give the West a chance or will she give up on Daniel and head home broken-hearted? God does have mysterious ways.
Kathleen Y’Barbo has written an adventure-packed story that is also full of faith, hope and love. The characters are strong, and very human-like with emotions that one can relate to. The subtle inspiration gives the reader something to think about without forcing the views.
The Confidential Life of Eugenia Cooper will keep you turning the pages wondering how this adventure turns out – with an ending that surprised me! If you’re looking for an adventure, this is the story for you. The Wild West awaits!
