Mrs. Harris' school is in danger, because Diego Montalvo, a famous Magician, has rented the neighboring property and is considering building a pleasure garden.  Lucinda Seton, a substitute art teacher and former student, first meets Diego while lying on the ground amongst the cherry blossoms and fears he may tattle about her lack of propriety.  Diego is attracted to Lucinda and decides to use her to further his real purpose, which is to locate the lost granddaughter of a rich, Spanish nobleman.  Lucinda, thinking that Diego will ruin the school, decides to keep an eye on him.

Don’t Bargain with the Devil is an enjoyable historical romance, which has interesting characters and takes a unique view of the Napoleonic Wars.  Diego has been deeply affected by the trauma of the war in his country, Spain, and the atrocities committed by the English, French, and even Spanish.  This has molded Diego into a tough, determined, yet honorable man, who will stop at nothing to honor the promise made to his dying father.  Lucinda knows little about her heritage but feels stifled by British propriety.  Diego must learn what is truly important or risk losing Lucinda forever.

Don’t Bargain with the Devil makes a great addition to the School for Heiresses Series and sets up the next book about Mrs. Harris quite well.  I really can't wait to read the next book..  This series is addictive!
