Hi All,
This is a wonderful page-turner that will leave you breathless or angry, depending on your politics. But I think that great writing overcomes politics and this is a terrific thriller with many surprises. This book moves along very fast but, you will have no trouble keeping up. Keeping up is a good phrase, as I started this book in the AM and read until I had digested each and every word. You won't be able to put it down.
At the start, the main character, Detective Ty Hauck and his daughter are in a store stocking up on junk food to take with them on a cruise on their boat. There is a drive-by shooting with one casualty. This takes place in Greenwich, CT, a posh community on the east coast where things like this just DID NOT happen. Detective Hauck checks to see if this crime is a crime of revenge or a case of retrubition as the victim was a lawyer with the Justice Department. The trail of suspects leads to a casino in upstate Connecticut. He is stumped until Annie Fletcher, a young restaurant owner, sees something she shouldn't have and runs to him with what she knows.
Suddenly, the Detective is taken into a rising storm of corruption inside the world of Greenwich's wealthy and powerful citizens including Hauck's brother. This knowledge is enough to tear the brothers apart forever if they don't die first.
This is a story of profiteering on an international stage and a wonderful thriller from a very good author. The thrills are all there in abundance including a surprise ending.
I liked this book very much and read every word. I recommend it to all mystery and history lovers who want to find the answer to the question: How far would you go to save a friend?
So, enjoy your read and I'll talk to you soon.
Mary
