When black roses show up mysteriously on your doorstep, you might get a little creeped out. Maggie Watson certainly is a little freaked out by the whole thing. Soon after, it becomes apparent that she is being stalked. With a stalker on the loose, she turns to the Sheriff’s Department and finds herself being helped by Nick. He’s a deputy with one hot body. Too bad she’s terrified and can’t enjoy his company.
Will she ever get past the fear that is paralyzing her? Will she just run away and pretend it never happened? Who can she trust?
In a fairly fast-paced book, Maggie has to come to terms with solitude and overcoming fear. It’s hard to be fairly innocent and be forced to grow up almost overnight. Will she rise to the challenge or fold under the pressure? Patty Henderson gives us characters with substance and who have some real life, tough choices to make. While the overall story was solid, there were a few parts I found to be slightly confusing. It was a very suspenseful book that kept me on the edge of my seat at various times.
A solid start for a first book, especially Romantic Suspense. It’s not easy to juggle suspense and romance and Ms. Henderson has done a great job putting them together.
