Delia Keller has lost her grandfather who raised her since she was a young girl. Just after her grandfather’s funeral, a stranger comes to town to deliver more bittersweet news. Delia’s father, who left her with her grandfather to seek his fortune has died in an accident and left her rich.
Jude Tucker can’t believe that his old boss has such a beautiful and charming daughter but he can hardly start courting her just after delivering the news that she’s an heiress. Though he’s not interested in the money, what would it look like? Anyway, she wouldn’t want someone with a past like his and it appears that Delia has taken up with the town’s wealthiest son, Charles Ladley.
Delia has always admired Charles from afar. Being the poor granddaughter of the town’s pastor, she knew she was never in his class. But now she has the money and position and Charles wants to court her.
Jude, a carpenter by trade, has agreed to build Delia a house. As their contact continues they both have growing feeling for the other. With Charles continuing to be her escort, Jude assumes her feelings are for him. Since Jude isn’t coming around as much any more and only talks business Delia assumes he hasn’t any feelings for her. But Charles begins to display his true colors and all isn’t as it seems.
As the tension rises and circumstances develop, only God’s miracles can bring Delia and Jude back together. Through these circumstances they are brought back to the basic principle they’ve always know, relying on God is the best way.
Hill Country Christmas is a sweet story full of surprises and Christmas miracles. It kept me turning the pages wanting to see what would happen next. As the story progresses you can see God bringing two hurt souls together. It brought to mind that relying on God and waiting on Him is the best way. Each character is written with depth that brings out the best. . .or worst. . .in them.
Hill Country Christmas has all the ingredients of an enjoyable read. This is Laurie’s first historical inspirational and I hope to see many more in the future.
