Thalia Langley has some secrets to hide; well, to be specific she has a man to hide. Thalia and her cousin helped Captain Thomas Dashwell escape from prison. Pippin can’t stand the thought of the man she loves going to prison when she can do something about it. In the midst of all of this, Thalia’s sister has married Duke of Hollindrake and is hosting a fabulous party. The perfect place to hide a man, right??

As the guests arrive, a distant cousin of the Duke’s arrives who is looking for a wife – a vicar who stirs some feelings in Thalia she isn’t prepared for. Thalia’s sister has put Thalia in charge of preparing Mr. Ryder to be a proper bachelor. As she gets to know Mr. Ryder, she questions whether Mr. Ryder is telling her everything about who he is.

Mr. Ryder is actually hiding something. Mr. Ryder isn’t a shy vicar but Lord Larken and a spy for his majesty’s government. He has been assigned the task of finding Thomas Dashwell and has followed him to this area. He suspects Thalia knows a whole lot more than she is saying and in the process of trying to find out what, his heart entangled.

Elizabeth Boyle has created an adventurous tale with Confessions of a Little Black Gown. While I admit that I had to concentrate on the first two chapters in order to get the hang of the story, I was hooked at that point and became a part of the story. By the end of the book, I truly wasn’t ready for it to end.

The plot is well done and full of twists and turns, suspense and heartstrings. The characters are real and believable. The tension developing between Thalia Langley and Lord Larken is sizzling, tempting, tender, passionate…
