Rachel Yoder is sad and mad. Ever since her best friend moved away, she can’t shake the feeling that nothing will ever be the same and nothing will ever seem right again. When a new girl comes to the Amish schoolhouse, Rachel finds herself with more problems. The new girl, Audra, takes Rachel’s lunch pail by mistake leaving Rachel with a smelly tuna fish sandwich. When other mistakes happen between Audra and Rachel, Rachel is convinced that Audra is doing everything on purpose. Will Rachel ever learn the value of forgiveness or will all of her friends and family suffer at her bad attitude?
Rachel Yoder is a delightful Amish girl with a penchant for discovery. Her desire to explore her world tends to lead her into the path of trouble. Rachel has a lot to offer girls living in the modern world. While she may dress differently and know some different words, Rachel shows us that little girls are growing into young ladies all over the world. They all have the same fears and often have the same feelings about the events that happen in a young girl’s life.
While I thought Rachel was a little too sassy for me at various times, I can see how girls would be able to identify with her. She learns things the hard way and the lessons she offers are presented in such a way that we can truly learn from her mistakes. With a moral lesson to be learned—in this book, forgiveness—Rachel Yoder is a wonderful addition to a family bookshelf. I’m delighted to have stumbled upon these books and am setting them aside for my baby girl. I believe the Rachel Yoder books are a timeless classic that will entertain readers for years to come.
