Alexandra Morgan leads what some would call a very unfeminine life. Her mother died when she was very young so she was raised by her father and brother, spending her spare time working in her father’s garage. She’s good at what she does, even if she isn’t the normal grease monkey. As a woman now though, she wants to experience some of the other side of her personality. Unfortunately, because of some issues during her childhood, she has to go outside of town to sow her oats. She knows nothing about doing so and with a body like hers, she really could have used that knowledge. Alexandra finds herself in a spot of trouble and a police officer takes her hand—in more ways than one.

Imagine her surprise when some time later, that same police officer shows up in her hometown as a race car driver named Black Jack Riley. Granted, she never got to know him very well from their one night but this doesn’t jive with what she did know. Thankfully, she also knew to keep her mouth shut.

Jack Riley likes fast cars which is a perk for a police office. His current undercover assignment gives him the opportunity to get behind the wheel of some pretty great pieces of metal. It also takes him into the path of one of the hottest women he has ever known. Granted, he didn’t know her very well since names never really were exchanged but he certainly wants to get to know her better now. He also needs her help with his case—whether he wants to admit it or not.

I love what Julie Miller has created in Out of Control. The heroine is a woman who covers all of the emotions. She can be tender and maybe even a little naïve but she is feisty, strong, smart and determined. We get to experience her coming to her own sense of awareness in who she is as a person and especially, who she is as a woman. The hero is a man of great integrity. He could have easily taken great advantage of a very, sexually inexperienced woman but his feelings took control and their journey is sweet and yet incredibly sizzling.

That being said, I did say it was romantic suspense so let’s talk a bit about that side of the equation. The mystery embedded in the manuscript takes some twists and turns and introduces some folks you are truly happy to see put away in the end.

Great mix of tension from both the suspense timeline and the developing relationship between Alex and Jack. Well done.
