Grace McAllister gave her sister one of the most unselfish gifts a woman can give—a baby. When Grace discovered that Phoebe couldn’t have her own child, she offered to be a surrogate for her. Not only would she carry the baby, but Grace would also provide the egg due to additional problems Phoebe had. However, Phoebe didn’t want to share that info with Michael, her husband.
Phoebe and Michael had taken Grace in as a teenager and helped her through some pretty tough times so there wasn’t anything Grace wouldn’t do to help them. She knew they would be great parents and given that the man she loved had walked out on her years ago, she didn’t think she would ever have a family of her own anyway. Being an aunt was better than nothing.
Until the weekend the unthinkable happened. Michael and Phoebe had gone away for the weekend and were involved in a car accident on their way home. Grace and her ‘niece’ Posie were alone and the grief was almost overwhelming. She knew that their funeral would bring Michael’s brother home—a man she didn’t know if she was ready to see again. Could her heart handle being in the same house with the man she still loved.
Josh Kingsley carried the image a young woman with him every day. A woman who held his heart but he thought traveling for business the way he did would be enough to fill that hole. That is until the day came that he received the call of his brother’s death. Michael and Phoebe had also taken Josh in for several years which was where he met Grace—beautiful, wonderful Grace.
Josh thought the world of his brother and would do anything for him—including helping him have a baby. When Michael discovered he couldn’t have a baby on his own, he asked Josh to be the sperm donor but not to tell Phoebe. Now that they are both gone and he is given guardianship of Posie, their daughter, how is he going to handle the woman who gave her life and holds his heart?
Liz Fielding has created a sweet love story with more than a little bit of sexual tension and humor. No, it isn’t the side-splitting laughter of a story but it is quirky ironies of every day life. Both Grace and Josh were truly trying to help their siblings achieve their heart’s desires. Michael and Phoebe wanted a child so badly that they didn’t share the truth with each other. In the end, they had a child but they also ended up in the ultimate match-making event. Secret Baby, Surprise Parents is a clever new idea and one that I could very easily see happening in today’s society. Wouldn’t that be fun??
