Gelis MacKenzie is looking for love. After seeing her future betrothed in a vision, she knows he’s sexy, the raven is his symbol and she can’t wait to meet him. Ronan MacRuari, known as the Raven, is good-looking and emotionally scarred. After burying two wives and a child, he’s not looking to make another match. His goal is to get rid of Gelis as soon as he possibly can. He knows his grandfather has the best of intentions, but he should have known Ronan wasn’t interested.
Gelis is convinced that he’s under a curse and she can help him with her second sight. She knows it will take every kind of seduction to make him hers forever, and she’s willing to go to great lengths to unleash the passion she knows they will share. But will this put both her and Ronan into grave danger? Will they be able to save their own lives? Will they forever be star-crossed lovers?
I love Gelis from the first to the last page. She’s a girl with a lot of spunk and the mettle to stick with her plan until she succeeds. She’s a smart woman who knows how to use her mind to help get what she wants. And after she decides she wants the Raven, you’d better just get out of her way.
Ronan waffles between tortured and sensual. He is so sexy and that kilt only adds to the appeal. However, when we get glimpses into his mind, we see a soul who is fragile and needs the love Gelis is offering. He’s strong and needy all at the same time.
There is lots of by-play going on in the book. I love the verbal sparring that happens between several of the characters. At times it reminds me of The Dick Van Dyke Show with the fast paced witty banter…and there’s a little slapstick thrown in, too. I love a good Highland novel and this book did not disappoint. If you are a member of the kilt-o-holic club like I am, then I think you’ve found a book to read.
