Once Upon A Romance

Must Reads...In Tina's Opinion

New Additons To The List

Killer Blonde {C/M} by Laura Levine was hysterical! I've had it on my "To Be Read" shelf for I don't know how long. I finally picked it up just to read the first few pages and couldn't put it down! The author really knows how to write humor that not only makes you chuckle but laugh out loud at.

The List
(In Alphabetical Order)

A Reason To Live {H} by Maureen McKade was one of the best books I've read in a long time. The romance was there but it was really the emotions of the heroine that really grabbed me. Set after the Civil War she was struggling to forget the horrors she had seen. I could feel her pain deep in my heart and at times teared up. This book is a keeper!!

Alpine For You {M} by Maddy Hunter...I didn't read alot of cozy/chick-lit mysteries until one Saturday Connie read me a paragraph out of Alpine For You that had both of us laughing so hard our eyes were tearing up and our stomachs hurt. Of course I had to read it! I laughed and laughed at Emily and her grandmothers antics. I have since read Top O' the Mournin' and I loved it just as much! If you haven't tried Maddy Hunter yet...what are you waiting for????!!!!
First in the Passport to Peril Mystery series...

Blackout {S} by Annie Solomon hooked me. Something happened on every page, and the chemistry between Margo and Jake was wonderful. A must read!

Bloodlines {C} by Dinah McCall is very gripping and emotional. I kept the pages turning until the end.

Bridge To Love, A {C} by Nancy Herkness is a beautiful story about love, betrayal, and the rebuilding of life.

Don't Say A Word {C} by Barbara Freethy was a great book! It had lots of mystery, romance and suspense with a surprise ending. LOVED IT!

Duke's Proposal, The {H} by Leslie LaFoy was a great book! It has a wonderful romance with very well developed characters and a little bit of humor. I could feel the the emotion of Fiona and Ian. The author did not feel the necessity to put in a lot of sex scenes, which was a breath of fresh air! It seems like every book I pick up half of it is sex!

This is the fifth great book in a row that I've read! (that must be a record!!!)

Finding Mary Blaine {C} by Jodi Thomas is a book that makes you think about your relationship with your own spouse as well as the plight of the homeless. This is a great romantic thriller!

Forgiving {C} by Jean Brashear is an emotinal story of love and forgiveness.

Here With Me {P} by Beverly Long was absolutely one of the best Time Travel books I've read in years! It has everything you could want in a book, humor, romance, mystery and surprises. I could feel George's awe and fear of all the contraptions that we take for granted every day without a second thought. I highly recommend this book!
Sequel to Stay With Me

In The Garden Trilogy {C} by Nora Roberts, well...I don't know how she does it but Nora Roberts can write trilogies that grab you from page one of the first book and you don't want to put them down until you've read every word of all three books. If I had to pick a fevorite I guess it would be Blue Dahlia. It has romance, mystery and a ghost. What more could I want?
Book 1-Blue Dahlia, book 2-Black Rose, and book 3-Red Lily.

Killer in High Heels {M/R} by Gemma Halliday was even better that her first book in the series (if you can believe that!). The wonderfully crazy characters had me laughing like a crazy person! It has a great blend of mystery and romance that I loved. Please, please give Gemma Halliday a chance and you'll love her too!
Second in the High Heels Mystery series...

Lady In Waiting {H} by Kathryn Caskie is a book that will tickle your funny bone. The "Oooh La La" romance of Jenny and Callum will definitely keep you turning the pages.

Last Seen Alive {M} by Carlene Thompson was not the kind of I normally read. I tend to gravitate towards the romance or lighter mysteries but I picked this one up just to read the first page or so and I could not put it down! It was a great book! So much so that I have since read The Last Whisper, which was wonderful. I highly recommend this book and any other by this author.

Mr. Perfect {C} by Linda Howard is hilarious. The best murder/suspense I've read! Murder mystery funny? Read it a see.

Out Of The Dark {C} by Sharon Sala is incredible. It was one of the darkest topics I have ever read about. The book is a very emotional and moving story of a woman overcoming the darkness of her past. I literally could not put it down.

Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever, The {H} by Julia Quinn was a delight! I haven't read a Julia Quinn book I liked this much in quite a while. The humor was what had been missing from her last few books but it's back now and it's great! Don't miss this book!

Spying in High Heels {M} by Gemma Halliday was fun, fast paced and a laugh out loud great read. You won't want to put this book down!

Stay With Me {P} by Beverly Long was another great book. The romance was wonderful and the characters believable. With a very surprising ending. READ THIS BOOK!

Storm Front {Sci-Fi} by Jim Butcher isn't what I'd normally pick up to read, but as Jim is a local author I thought I'd give it a try...It was wonderful!!! Harry Dresden the main character is a wizard who gets into and out of more than his share of trouble. Lots of action, mystery and fantasy. Something for everyone. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

The Survivors {C} by Dinah McCall was one of the best books I've read in a long, long time. It was a Dinah McCall that we haven't seen in the past several books. Not that they were bad but this one was just better. An emotional book with very well developed character's and a fast paced story. I can't say enough how much I loved this book!

Three Wishes {C} by Barbara Delinsky was a very heartwarming story of love and sacrifice. A real tear-jerker! You may need a kleenex or two...

To Die For {C} by Linda Howard was hilarious! It's a great mystery and an even better romance!

To Love and to Perish {M/R} by Laura Durham was her best book so far! I really have to thank Connie for talking me into reading the Chick-Lit/Cozy mysteries (even though I called her a deserter!). They are so much fun to read and the stuff the authors come up with is hysterical! I love Annabelle's neighbor Leatrice, she is a hoot! And her hairdresser/Ordained Minister friend, Fern, makes me laugh every time he opens his mouth. This is a keeper!!!
Third in the Annabelle Archer mystery series...

Your Responses and Must Reads

Tina,

Out of The Dark was one of the best books I have ever read. A gripping, emotional story that kept me holding my breath. I shed more than a couple of tears. I highly recommend this story. I call it a cross between Francine Rivers's (Redeeming Love) and V.C. Andrews's (Flowers In The Attic). I told Ms. Sala so and she took it as a huge compliment.

On the opposite side of the spectrum is Whipporwhill, a story that kept me laughing with delight all the way through. I am in awe of Sharon Sala's talent.
